Introduction to the functions of industrial electronic counters

The electronic counter can access all kinds of analog to digital converters in its input channel, and then make various digital instruments with the corresponding interchanges. The advantages of electronic counters are high accuracy, wide measuring range, many functions, simple operation, fast measuring speed, direct display of numbers, and easy realization of automation of measurement process, and have been widely applied in industrial production and scientific experiments.

Electronic counters have the following three basic functions:

1, frequency measurement: when the measured signal is input from the channel of the digital display frequency meter, if the input is 1 second, the reading N is the frequency fA of the unit. The standard frequency signal output from the crystal oscillator is divided into frequency by time base circuit to form the gate time signal and determine the measurement value.

2, cycle or time interval measurement: the measured signal is input from the channel to the digital display frequency meter, and the gate circuit is controlled, and the input signal of the path is the clock pulse signal provided by the time base circuit. The number of counters counted is gate opening time, that is, the period or time interval of the measured signal.

3. Cumulative count: the open gate is triggered by manual / machine, and the counter accumulates count of the channel signal.


On the basis of these functions, some auxiliary circuits or devices are added, and the counters can also perform the functions of multi period average, time interval averaging, frequency ratio and frequency expansion. The performance indicators of electronic counters mainly include: frequency, cycle, time interval measurement range, input characteristics (sensitivity, input impedance and waveform), accuracy, resolution and error (counting error, time base error and trigger error).

There are two ways to reduce the conversion error. First, the implementation of multi cycle measurement. Similar to the quantization error reduction method, the multi period measurement method of conversion error also doubles the period T. Assuming that the 10 cycle is measured, according to the periodic chart, the transformation errors generated by the two adjacent periods are mutually exclusive. That is, in the 10 measuring periods, the actual error is only the first cycle and the last cycle, and the error is the same as that of measuring a cycle, so the conversion error can be effectively reduced by the cycle doubling method. The second method is to increase the signal-to-noise ratio, that is, increase the ratio of the interference signal to the noise signal, so that the conversion error can also be reduced.

Although the error of industrial counter measurement cycle can not be fundamentally eliminated, but through in-depth analysis of the causes of the conversion error, quantization error and various errors, we can work out a relatively effective way to reduce the error. With the continuous improvement of the electronic counter and the continuous improvement of the method of error reduction, we believe that the measurement cycle error will be reduced to the minimum.
